Part 1

 Making a Full-Length Album

I'm Bossi, a singer, songwriter and poet dedicated to using my voice to advocate for women's empowerment. I also believe strongly in the power of the arts to better the world and have made it my mission to ensure more art gets made. Battling cancer twice only gave me more power and resolve in this pursuit. So I founded House of Bossi out of my home to support other artists through residency programs, live shows, exhibits, and convenings designed to connect them with resources and community.

A few recent highlights were working with the UN to create an original song for a global mental health campaign, putting out an EP, selling out the iconic Hotel Cafe, and fostering many incredible painters, musicians and poets through House of Bossi.  During all of this, I’ve been writing, growing, and collaborating on over 40 new songs.

Now it’s time to turn 13 of my new songs into a full-length album about brave women. But I need your help to do it!

This album is my BOSSIEST work yet. It deals with themes of being a woman in a society built for men, aging and mortality, breaking free of chains, and losing ownership over our bodies. But it also highlights the simple ways I have found peace, love, and freedom in my own life, in my own company.

Part 2 of the project is in development. Plans include an immersive live experience fusing poetry, storytelling and video. But it all starts with the music!

Why I Started Making Music again!

Check out some moments from my live shows!

Why is this album so important?

Aside from believing in my voice as an artist, the overall industry trends are dismal for women in music.

  • Check out this 2023 study by USC Annenberg that found women represent only 12.8% of songwriters, 30% of artists and 2.8% of producers and engineers.

  • The same study found that only 20% of artists who performed at major music festivals were women.

  • Women in rock fare even worse. Only 7.7% of inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are women.

Supporting independent projects by women helps to change this!

The Producer

Justin Glasco

I’m so honored and excited to work on this project with the incredible Justin Glasco. Justin is a Los Angeles based producer, musician and songwriter. He has worked with artists such as Andrew Bird, The Lone Bellow, Christina Perri, Avril Lavigne, Lizzy McAlpine, Paris Paloma, Matt Berninger (the National), Bo Burhnam, and many more.

He is one of the creators of the live project Stories from his LA studio featuring artists such as Rufus Wainright, Emily Bear, Rozzi, and Dodie. His work was recently featured on Showtime's Shameless, CBS's All Rise and campaigns for Amazon.com and Sony Electronics.

Justin currently has a top 10 single at BBC1 radio in the UK with Paris Paloma's "Labour" and was recently recognized for his engineering work on Ashley McBryde's Grammy Nominated record "Lindeville." He is listed in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 Rock Producers.

The Songs

  1. She’s Wild (This one is ready!)
We’ve produced this first single to give you a taste of what we are making. Listen to the 1 minute clip below. The manifesto for wild women everywhere! “So she packed her things and left his baggage behind. Better to be alone than let his ceiling be her sky. She’s wild. She’s wild.”

  2. Monster in Me
A raucous political jam about the rage we feel after seeing women’s rights set back 50 years.

  3. The Animal Side
”Suck the tears from their eyes. Harvest heartache while it’s ripe. Like a fruit that you can capitalize on. Honey won’t you take my hand. I can’t seem to understand. The animal side of man.”

  4. The Fall of Eve
Many of us, myself included, grew up hearing that a woman is responsible for all the pain in the world. This song is from Eve’s point of view. It’s a rare Bossi ballad and was written with my friend David Redd.

  5. Cassandra
“Ain’t it a tragedy. Tell all the little girls like you and me, what happens when you eat from the knowledge tree.” - A song for Cassandra from The Iliad who is cursed by Apollo for refusing his advances.

  6. Sleep Tonight
A Tom Petty-like rock song about wrestling with inner demons and anxiety.

  7. Kiss me Goodbye
Bossi gets a little punk in this anthem about breaking feminine stereotypes and the small-town pressures to conform. Written with David Redd.

  8. Memories in the Rearview Mirror
A coming of age story: ”Ain’t this a wild ride. 20 years in the blink of an eye. Like a long exposure photograph. These lines are all that’s left of the past. All I can do is laugh.”

  9. Hold On
A deeply personal ballad about facing mortality and letting go of attachment to my breasts, fertility and the things society says make us women; sexuality, hormones, the ability to bear children…

  10. Good Bones
A song about following the path society lays out for us instead of what our inner self longs for.

  11. White Linen
MY FIRST SONG WITH ITALIAN LYRICS! A very personal love song that is dear to my heart. “Non mi bastano le dita. Per contare le memorie della nostra vita.”

  12. Toxic Love
Not a song about Nico haha. A song about learning how to have painful confrontations with people who cause harm.

  13. Tried to Write a Love Song
A heart-felt duet! “I can’t describe it. So I’ll sit here with you in the quiet. Letting everything I do speak to you. When words won’t find my tongue. I’m gonna show you my love.”

The Budget

Great art requires resources and a commitment to the idea that meaningful experiences hold immeasurable value. Supporting the arts means supporting humanity, democracy, and freedom of expression. Society needs this now more than ever.

In addition to the cost of making the art, marketing is critical for getting it heard. If we exceed our $60K goal, that gives me more ammo for PR, advertising and touring. I’ve seen bands raise $30K for marketing alone.
